Beavers drop pair at No. 16 Augustana

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Bemidji State University softball team dropped both games of its doubleheader at No. 16 Augustana University Sunday afternoon in Sioux Falls, S.D. The Beavers (15-21, 4-10 NSIC) fell in game one 9-0 and game two 18-1 in two, five-inning outings.

The Vikings scored runs in every inning and held the Beavers to three hits in the game to take game one, 9-0, in five innings.

Brooke Phillips, Makayla Pagel, and Alexandra Ripka each tallied a hit in the game. Sophomore Megan Pehrson started the game and pitched 3.0 innings and gave up four earned runs off of seven hits to fall to 3-3 on the season. Junior Rochelle Koshalek came in to pitch one inning and gave up three runs off of three hits.

The Vikings used 20 hits to down the Beavers 18-1 in game two and held the Beavers to just one hit on defense. Augustana hit seven homeruns in the game including three from Morgan Beaner leading to the scoring burst.

Bemidji State scored its lone run in the series after three walks in the fourth inning led to Ripka scoring from third off of a wild pitch. The Beavers lone hit in the game came in the first inning when Pagel singled up the middle.

Sophomore Rachel Burkland started the game and pitched 1.0 inning and gave up five earned runs before being relieved by Megan Pehrson and Rochelle Koshalek who pitched 1.1 and 1.2 innings, respectively.

The Beavers will look to rebound tomorrow when they travel to Wayne, Neb., to face Wayne State College for a doubleheader beginning at noon.
