BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University softball team concludes its 2018 season this weekend by hosting Southwest Minnesota State University and University of Sioux Falls Saturday, April 28 and Sunday, April 28. The Beavers (15-25, 4-14 NSIC) play host to the Mustangs (13-22, 8-12 NSIC) and Cougars (26-17, 11-9 NSIC) for two Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference doubleheaders.

The Beavers will honor its four seniors Logan McDonnel, Lacy Hiltner, Lexi Ripka and Kristin Monkman as well as student assistant coach Erin Robson Sunday against the Cougars in part of senior day.

Scouting the Mustangs
SMSU enters the weekend tied for 11th in the NSIC standings with a 8-12 league record and are 13-22 overall. The Mustangs are coming off a sweep of Wayne State College Wednesday, April 25 by defeating the Wildcats by scores of 7-1 and 3-2.

The Mustangs are led by Bailey Johnson at the plate who is batting .340 in 97 at bats while Emma Grote follows closely at .336 in 110 at bats. Kali Tomlinson leads the team with 19 RBI this season and is batting .304 in 112 at bats.

Megan Cull and Athena Golling are tied for the team lead with 21 appearances in the circle for the Mustangs and each sport a 4-8 record. Shelby Crank leads the team with five wins and has posted a 4.64 ERA in 77 innings while Cull and Golling follow with ERA’s of 4.72 and 5.00, respectively.

Scouting the Cougars
The Cougars enter the weekend’s action seventh in the NSIC standings with a 11-9 league record and are 26-17 overall. USF last played Wednesday and split its series with Augustana University.

The Cougars have seven student-athletes batting over .300 on the season and are led by Sydney Nieveen who is batting .352 in 142 at bats. USF also has four players who have totaled 30 RBI on the season and are led by Ashley Meyer at 38. Meyer also leads the team with 10 homeruns and is batting .328.

Courtney Mathews leads the team with 29 appearances in the circle and has posted a 2.65 ERA, also leading the team, and is 9-4 on the season. Breanna Black leads USF with 10 wins and is 10-7 with an ERA of 3.80 in 112.1 innings.
