Gomez added to Beaver Softball coaching staff

BEMIDJI, Minn. – Bemidji State University Head Softball Coach Rick Supinski has announced the hiring of Brittany Gomez as assistant coach. The Iowa State University graduate and former Cyclones Softball player continues her coaching career after a two-season stint at the University of Montana.

Gomez broke into the coaching ranks in 2017 when she accepted a position as the assistant coach on Jamie Pinkerton’s Montana Softball staff. During her time in Missoula, Mont. the Griz won a Big Sky Championship, made an NCAA Tournament appearance, eight players earned All-Big Sky laurels, had one NFCA All-Region selection, and 15 were named to the Big Sky All-Academic Team.

One of the top hitters in Big 12 Conference history, Gomez wrapped up her collegiate playing career at Iowa State in 2016. A leadoff hitter, known for her speed, became the first player in Iowa State softball history to be a four-time All-Big 12 selection. She was named Second-Team All-Big 12 outfielder as a freshman, sophomore, and junior, while she was first-team all-league as a senior after batting .401 as an infielder.

Gomez started all 219 of Iowa State’s games from 2013-16, concluded her career ranked third in Big 12 history in hits (297) and tied for fifth in stolen bases (110). She is ISU’s leader in career hits, batting average (.396), steals and runs scored (165).

Following her collegiate career, she was drafted 28th overall by the Pennsylvania Rebellion of the National Pro Fastpitch softball league. In the summer of 2017 she played for the Texas Charge.

Gomez was selected for the U.S. Women’s Baseball National Team in 2015 and helped Team USA win gold at the Pan American Games in Toronto. She made the team again in 2016, representing her country at the World Baseball Softball Confederation Women’s Baseball World Cup in Gijang, South Korea. She was recently named to the Team USA roster for a third time and will compete in the World Cup, which begins Aug. 22 in Viera, Florida.
