Beavers travel to West St. Paul Dome for final non-conference doubleheaders

BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University softball team travels for its final non-conference tournament this week and will face Finlandia University, Bethany Lutheran College and Concordia College-Moorhead at the West St. Paul Dome, March 20-21. The Beavers (13-7) bring a four-game winning streak into the tournament after going 8-4 in Florida the week before.

Finlandia (2-14, 0-0 ACAA)
The Beavers and Lions will battle for just one game during the two-day tournament and will face-off Wednesday, March 20 at 10 a.m.

The Lions begin the weeks play after starting the season 2-14 and went 1-11 at the Spring Games in Florida last week. The Lions’ lone wins this season came against St. Scholastica College (Feb. 24) and St. Lawrence University (Mar. 16). On offense, the Lions are led by junior Denia Bent who is batting .357 in 42 plate appearances and has totaled 15 hits and four RBI. Bent also leads the team with the most appearances in the circle and in eight games, she is 1-6 with a 3.27 earned run average.

Bethany Lutheran (8-5, 0-0 UMAC)
The Beavers and Vikings will face each other twice at the WSP Dome with game one Wednesday, March 20 at noon followed by game two Thursday at 10 a.m.

The Vikings are 8-5 to start the season and are currently on a three-game winning streak after going 4-3 during spring training in Tucson, Ariz. BLC is led by Haylee Sobrero at the plate who is batting .357 in 42 at bats and has totaled 15 hits, five doubles and six RBI. In the circle, Bria Majeski leads the team with a 2.88 ERA in 48.2 innings and is 4-4 in 13 games. Shelby Bloemendaal follows with a 3.37 ERA and is 4-1 in 35.1 innings.

Concordia-Moorhead (6-4, 0-0 MIAC)
The Beavers and Cobbers will face-off for just one game at the WSP Dome Thursday, March 21 at noon.

Concordia-Moorhead has started the season 6-4 overall and are returning from Florida where they went 6-4 at the Spring Games. The Cobbers are led on offense by Maria Pake who is batting .576 in 33 at bats and has totaled 19 hits, six doubles and seven RBI while Elizabeth Asp follows closely with a .556 batting average. In the circle, Megan Gavin leads the team with a 1.56 ERA in 45.0 innings and is 6-1 with one shutout to lead the team. Cassi Bohnsack and Kelly Riordan have also spent time in the circle but neither have appeared in 10 or more innings for the Cobbers.
