Beavers swept by Huskies at Husky Dome

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The Bemidji State University softball team lost both games of its doubleheader against St. Cloud State University Tuesday afternoon at the Huskey Dome in St. Cloud, Minn. The Beavers (20-12, 3-5 NSIC) struggled to find hits in the series and fell to the Huskies (22-10, 4-4 NSIC) by scores of 12-0 and 2-1.

St. Cloud State 12, Bemidji State 0 (F/6)
The first game of the day was all Huskies after SCSU totaled 12 runs off of 12 hits and the Huskies pitching staff held the Beavers to just two hits in the game. St. Cloud State didn’t start scoring until the third inning but totaled four runs in the inning. The Huskies held the 4-0 lead until the fifth when a solo home run made it 5-0 and then exploded for seven runs in the sixth inning to take the commanding 12-0 lead.

BSU’s lone hits in the game came from Elaina Christiansen and Makayla Pagel (double) as SCSU’s Kate Kopeck and Lauren Kirchberg combined for the two-hit shutout. Kopeck pitched five innings and allowed just one hit to earn her 11th win of the season while Kirchberg came in to pitch one inning in relief and allowed just one hit.

Stephi Dullum earned the loss in the circle for the Beavers after allowing five runs off of eight hits and falls to 8-6 on the season. Megan Pehrson came in to pitch one inning in relief and allowed seven runs, three earned, off of four hits.

St. Cloud State 2, Bemidji State 1
Game two would be a pitcher’s duel between Rochelle Koshalek and Husky pitchers Kylie Thomsen and Sydney Lapoint. The Beavers could only tally one run off of two hits against the duo while Koshalek held the Huskies to just two runs, one earned, off of five hits.

St. Cloud State scored its lone runs in the third inning after a pair of sacrifices scored two runs. Bemidji State responded in the fourth inning when Makayla Pagel hit a solo home run to bring the score to 2-1 but Pagel’s solo shot would be the only run producing hit for the Beavers.

Koshalek pitched all seven innings for the Beavers but falls to 3-3 on the season with the loss.

Bemidji State will look to bounce back from its four-game losing skid this weekend when they host Minnesota State University, Moorhead and Northern State University for a pair of doubleheaders April 6-7.
