Beavers travel to Minot State before hosting Upper Iowa and No. 17 Winona State

BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University softball team begins a six-game week by traveling to Minot Stat University before hosting Upper Iowa University and No. 17 Winona State University. The Beavers (22-14, 5-7 NSIC) hope to build upon a 5-7 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference record that has them tied for ninth in league standings.

The Beavers begin the week by traveling to Minot State (17-12, 6-6 NSIC) Wednesday, April 10 for a doubleheader at 2 and 4 p.m. BSU then returns home to host Upper Iowa (14-13, 6-6 NSIC) Saturday, April 13 at 1 and 3 p.m., followed by No. 21 Winona State (27-5, 12-0 NSIC) Sunday, April 14 at Noon and 2 p.m. Both home doubleheaders against the Peacocks and Warriors will be at Chet Anderson Stadium.

Scouting Minot State
Minot State enters the weekend 17-12 overall and tied for sixth in the NSIC standings with a 6-6 league record. The Beavers traveled to University of Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State University last weekend and fell to the Bulldogs in two games and split their doubleheader with the Huskies.

Minot State is led at the plate by junior Karlee Coughlin who is batting .412 with 11 doubles, one triple and two home runs and is third in the conference with 34 RBI this season. She is followed by senior Lauren Cowden who is batting .407 with six doubles, five triples and one home run to go along with 18 RBI. In the circle, the Beavers are led by senior Laura Mendez who has posted a 3.21 ERA in 76.1 innings and has posted an 8-7 record with 39 strikeouts. Freshman Zoya Robbins follows with a 3.71 ERA in 56.2 innings and is 6-2 in the circle

Scouting Upper Iowa
The Peacocks enter the week’s action with a 14-13 overall record and are tied for sixth in the league standings with a 6-6 conference record. Upper Iowa is currently on a three-game win streak after splitting its home series with University of Sioux Falls before sweeping Southwest Minnesota State University. Upper Iowa will travel to Wayne State College April 9 before facing the Beavers Saturday.

At the plate, the Peacocks are led by Julia Buffington who is batting .426 with five doubles, one triple and four home runs to go along with 15 RBI. Katie Crogan leads the team with 26 RBI and is batting .352 with seven doubles and six home runs. Emily Kisch leads the team with 79.2 innings pitched and sports a 9-5 record to go along with a 3.25 ERA and 51 strikeouts. She is followed by Erin Drahozal and Jaclyn Thompson who have pitched 33.2 and 32.2 innings, respectively.

Scouting Winona State
The Warriors enter the week’s action tied for first in the NSIC with a perfect 12-0 record and are 27-5 overall. Winona State is ranked No. 17 in the National Fastpitch Coaches’ Association poll as of April 3 before the lastest poll to be released on April 10. Winona State is on a 12-game winning streak, the second longest active streak in the NSIC. Winona State will battle with No. 12 Augustana University April 9 before traveling to University of Minnesota Crookston Saturday and BSU Sunday.

The Warriors are led on offense by Alison Nowak who is second in the league with a .481 batting average and has posted 12 doubles, seven home runs and 32 RBI. She is followed by the conference’s preseason player of the year Lani Van Zyl who is batting .455 with nine doubles, three home runs and 24 RBI. In the circle, WSU is led by Jordyn Kleman who is 14-1 in 18 appearances and has posted a 1.46 ERA in 95.2 innings pitched. She is followed by Liz Pautz who is 9-2 with a 0.59 ERA in 71.1 innings.

Scouting the Beavers
Bemidji State returns to action after posting a 2-4 record last week after being swept by St. Cloud State and split its series with Northern State and MSU-Moorhead. The Beavers are 22-14 on the season and are tied for ninth in the league standings with a 5-7 conference record.

The Beavers are led by senior Jessica Burlingame who is batting .385 with seven doubles, four triples and three home runs to go along with 24 RBI. Burlingame is also  third in the conference with 47 hits this season and tied for fourth with 33 runs scored. She is followed by freshman Elaina Christiansen who is batting .337 in her first season and has totaled four doubles, one triple and leads the team with four home runs. She has totaled 21 RBI this season for fourth on the team.

BSU is led by sophomore Stephi Dullum in the circle who has posted a 9-7 record and 2.20 ERA in 92.1 innings. Her 2.20 ERA is eighth best in the NSIC her nine wins are tied for sixth. She is followed by senior Rochelle Koshalek, junior Megan Pehrson and freshman Kaidron McClafferty who have pitched 54.0, 48.2 and 37.2 innings, respectively.
