BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University softball team continues play on the road and will travel to Concordia University-St. Paul and Minnesota State University, Mankato for a pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference doubleheaders. The Beavers (22-22, 5-15 NSIC) will first travel to the Golden Bears (22-18, 9-11 NSIC) for a doubleheader at Noon and 2 p.m., Friday followed by the Mavericks for a doubleheader also at Noon and 2 p.m., Saturday.

Scouting the Golden Bears
The Golden Bears enter the weekend’s action fighting for the last playoff spot in the NSIC Softball Tournament and are in a three-way tie for 10th with a 9-11 league record. Concordia-St. Paul most recently traveled to face No. 17 Winona State University and were swept by the Warriors by scores of 1-0 and 11-3 Tuesday, April 16.

The Golden Bears are led by Carlie Hart who has posted a .391 batting average and has totaled six doubles, two triples, three home runs and 22 RBI. Hart is also a force on the base paths and leads the conference with 35 stolen bases. Kris McIntyre follows closely with a .381 batting average while Justine Schattner leads the Golden Bears with 29 RBI this season.

In the circle, Samantha Sullivan leads the team with a 10-8 record and has posted a 3.07 ERA in 109.1 innings. She is followed by Kali Kaestner and Aryka Knoche who have compiled ERA’s of 3.07 and 3.12, respectively.

Scouting the Mavericks
The Mavericks begin the weekend’s action in a four-way tie for sixth place in the NSIC standings with a league record of 10-10. In their last action, the Mavericks earned a sweep over Upper Iowa University by scores of 8-2 and 4-0 Tuesday, April 16 and are currently on a three-game winning streak.

Minnesota State is led on offense by Cori Kennedy who has posted a .370 batting average with nine doubles, two triples, four home runs and 21 RBI. She is followed by McKenzie Paap who is batting .343 and leads the team with 49 hits and 26 stolen bases. Emma Schifferle leads the Mavericks with 27 RBI on the season and is batting .259 with seven doubles and seven home runs.

Mackenzie Ward leads the Mavericks in the circle and in 31 appearances she has posted a 13-11 record with a 2.65 ERA in 156.0 innings and leads the conference with 181 strikeouts. She is followed by Lexi Schoper who has posted a 6-3 record in 17 appearances and sports a 3.44 ERA in 65.1 innings.

Scouting the Beavers
The Beavers begin the weekend tied for 13th in the league standings with a 5-15 conference record and are four games out of 10th place for a spot in the NSIC Softball Tournament. Bemidji State has lost eight consecutive games and were swept on the road at University of Minnesota Duluth in its last action.

On offense the Beavers are led by senior Jessica Burlingame who has put together one of the most historic seasons in program history. Burlingame leads the team with a batting average of .394 which is the fourth-best batting average at BSU. She also needs just two more hits to break her own record for most hits in a single season with 63 and has already set program records in runs scored (40) and stolen bases (17).

She is joined by seniors Kelsey McAllister (.338), Brooke Phillips (.319) and Makayla Pagel (.310) who are all hitting above .300 this season while Phillips leads the conference and set a program record with 19 doubles this season. Pagel leads the team with 35 RBI and needs just five more to break the program record of 39 set by Lyndsey Peterson in 2016.

In the circle, the Beavers are led by sophomore Stephi Dullum who is eighth in the NSIC with an ERA of 2.41 and is 9-11 in 119.0 innings pitched. She is followed by senior Rochelle Koshalek who is 3-6 with an ERA of 4.02 in 69.2 innings while freshman Kaidron McClafferty has posted a 4-2 record and 4.46 ERA in 53.1 innings.
