Beavers drop pair at Minnesota State

MANKATO, Minn. – The Bemidji State University softball team fell to Minnesota State University, Mankato on the road in both of its games of its Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference doubleheader Saturday afternoon. The Beavers (22-26, 5-19 NSIC) fell by scores of 13-0 and 11-4 to the Mavericks (29-17, 14-10 NSIC) and have fallen in 12 consecutive games.

Bemidji State 0, Minnesota State 13 (F/5)
It was a tough game one for the Beavers as they were held to just one hit by Minnesota State’s Makenzie Ward. Minnesota dominated on offense as well and totaled 13 runs off of 13 hits to decide game one, 13-0 in five innings.

Senior Brooke Phillips recorded the Beavers lone hit in the game, a single in the fourth inning that broke up Ward’s perfect game attempt.

Sophomore Stephi Dullum earned the loss in the circle after pitching three innings and allowed six runs off of nine hits.

Bemidji State 4, Minnesota State 11
The Beavers totaled four runs off of five hits in game two but 14 hits and 11 runs to go along with four Beaver errors derailed Bemidji State in its 11-4 loss in game two.

Bemidji State held a 3-2 lead over the Mavericks after the first two innings but six runs over the next two innings put Minnesota State too far in front of BSU.

Senior Jessica Burlingame led the Beavers by going 3-for-4 at the plate with a triple, home run, RBI and two runs scored while Rochelle Koshalek and Sami Trana were the only other Beavers to record a hit. Burlingame’s triple in the first inning was her seventh of the season tying BSU’s single-season record.

Freshman Kaidron McClafferty earned the loss in the circle after pitching 5.2 innings and allowed 11 runs, five earned, off of 14 hits and earned two strikeouts.

The Beavers continue NSIC action on the road Wednesday, April 24 at Univeristy of Mary before returning home for the final weekend of the 2019 season.
