Softball travels to Mary before final weekend

BEMIDJI, Minn. – For the final time in the 2019 season, the Bemidji State University softball team hits the road for a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference doubleheader at University of Mary. The Beavers (22-26, 5-19 NSIC) travel to Mary, N.D., to face the Marauders (20-24, 11-13 NSIC) for two games beginning at Noon and 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 24.

Scouting the Marauders
Mary enters Wednesday’s action tied for 10th in the NSIC standings by holding a 11-13 league record and are 20-14 overall. The Marauders split both of its doubleheaders against Southwest Minnesota State University and University of Sioux Falls this past weekend. The Marauders began by earning a 2-1 victory over the Mustangs in game one but fell 3-1 in game two. Mary fell to the Cougars in game one 3-0 the following day but rebounded with a 4-3 victory in game two.

Mary is led on offense by Rebekkah Keller who is batting .367 with 58 hits off of five doubles, four triples, one home run and has totaled 11 RBI. She is followed by Kaitlyn Alvarado who is batting .357 and Haley Berube leads the team with 31 RBI and is batting .312.

Brieann Backes leads the team in the circle with 132 innings pitched and is 11-10 on the season with a 5.57 earned run average and has totaled 82 strikeouts. She is followed by Alvarado who has pitched 77.2 innings and Madison Jahner who has pitched 71.1 innings. Alvarado leads the team with a 5.41 ERA while Jahner has compiled a 5.50 ERA.

Scouting the Beavers
The Beavers enter Wednesday having lost twelve of their last games and are 14th in the NSIC standings with a 5-19 record and are 22-26 overall. The Beavers were swept on the road at Concordia University-St. Paul and Minnesota State University, Mankato this past weekend in their last action.

Bemidji State is led at the plate by senior Jessica Burlingame who is 13th in the league with a .388 batting average and leads the NSIC with 66 hits. She has totaled 32 RBI, second on the team, and has recorded nine doubles, seven triples and six home runs. Her 66 hits this season broke her own single-season record at Bemidji State and is also the single-season record holder in runs scored (44) and steals (17).

She is followed by senior Kelsey McAllister who is batting .325 with 49 hits off of 11 doubles, one triple, four home runs and has totaled 27 RBI. Freshman Elaina Christiansen follows with a .322 batting average and 24 RBI while senior Brooke Phillips is batting .318 and leads the conference with 19 doubles this season. Fellow senior Makayla Pagel is batting .297 and leads the team and is tied for eighth in the NSIC with 39 RBI and needs just one more to break the program’s record for most RBI in a season.

In the circle, the Beavers are led by sophomore Stephi Dulllum who has posted a 9-13 record in 123.2 innings and boasts a 3.00 ERA with 74 strikeouts. She is followed by senior Rochelle Koshalek who is 3-6 with a 4.78 ERA in 77.2 innings while freshman Kaidron McClafferty is 4-4 with a 4.89 ERA in 67.1 innings.
