BSU Softball hosts final weekend of 2019

BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University softball team wraps-up its 2019 season this weekend by hosting Wayne State College (Neb) and No. 14 Augustana University (S.D.) for a pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference doubleheaders at the BSU Softball Field. The Beavers (22-28, 5-21 NSIC) begin the weekend by hosting the Wildcats (12-31, 3-23 NSIC) for a doubleheader Friday, April 26 at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., followed by the No. 14 Vikings (44-7, 24-2 NSIC) Saturday at 12 and 2 p.m.

The Beavers will honor their five seniors Rochelle Koshalek, Brooke Phillips, Jessica Burlingame, Makayla Pagel and Kelsey McAllister in part of senior day in between games in Saturday’s doubleheader with the Vikings.

Scouting the Wildcats
Wayne State enters the weekend one spot below the Beavers at 15 in the NSIC standings and hold a 3-23 league record. The Wildcats are 12-31 overall and were swept in their home doubleheader with Winona State University Wednesday.

The Wildcats are led at the plate by Taylor Menard who is batting .391 with 34 hits and 10 RBI while Emily Chandler follows with a .336 batting average and leads the team with 37 RBI and 10 home runs. In the circle, Makenna Adkison leads the team with a 6-14 record in 115.1 innings and has posted a 5.58 earned run average with 51 strikeouts. Maddie Moser follows with 82 innings pitched and is 3-11 on the season with a 7.60 ERA.

Scouting the Vikings
Augustana enters the weekend ranked No. 14 in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches’ Association national poll and winners of 12 straight. The Vikings are second in the NSIC standings and are 24-2 in league play with a 44-7 overall record. In their last action, the Vikings swept Upper Iowa University at home by scores of 8-0 and 9-1, Wednesday.

The Vikings are led by two players who are batting over .400 this season in Kara McDougall and Maggie Kadrlik. McDougall leads the team with a .467 batting average and 35 hits while Kadrlik follows with a .421 batting average and 56 hits. Shannon Petersen leads the team with 54 RBI while Kadrlik closely follows with 52. The Vikings have three pitchers with ERA’s below two and are led by Ashley Mickshl who has posted a 21-4 record and a 1.71 ERA in 147 innings. She is followed by Olivia Wolters and Amber Elliott who have ERA’s of 1.46 and 1.83, respectively.
