Pitching staff leads Beavers to sweep over Quincy

PEORIA, Ill. – The Bemidji State University softball team earned two victories over Quincy University Friday afternoon at the Louisville Slugger Dome in Peoria, Ill. The Beavers defeated the Hawks (2-6) by scores of 3-2 and 7-1 and improved to 6-3 on the season.

In game one, the Beavers were led by junior pitcher Stephi Dullum who pitched all seven innings and held the Hawks to just two runs, one earned, off of seven hits and had five strikeouts to pick up her second win of the season.

Senior Lexi Derrick and junior Sami Dullum each recorded RBI singles in the game while senior Olivia Tucker hit a solo home run in the fifth inning that would prove to be the eventual game-winning run.

The Beavers used another stellar pitching performance to earn the win in game two this time by the arm of Tucker. After Stephi Dullum pitched the first inning and gave up one run off of two hits, Tucker came in to pitch six innings in relief and allowed just one hit and held the Hawks scoreless to earn her first victory of the season.

Derrick and freshman Emmarie Yeager led the Beavers with two RBI each including a two-run home run by Yeager in the seventh inning. Yeager, Tucker and junior Lisa Kossan each lead the team with two hits in the game as the Beavers out-hit the Hawks 10-3.

Bemidji State continues non-conference play on the road this weekend and travels to Davenport, Iowa for a single-game against St. Ambrose University tomorrow at 11 a.m.
