BEMIDJI, Minn. -- Bemidji State University Softball Head Coach Brittany Gomez announced the addition of Stephanie Ferguson (Cloquet, Minn.), Kora Martin (Thorsby, Alberta/Rainy River CC), Autumn Reid (Forest Lake, Minn.) and Jennifer Smith (Winkler, Manitoba/Dawson CC) to the BSU softball program for the 2021 season. Ferguson, Martin, Reid and Smith join Stella Dolan, Madison McCann and Lizzie Schwenn to bring the incoming class to seven. All seven newcomers have signed national letters of intent during the NCAA’s signing period to join the Beaver Softball team for the 2021 season.
All signees are contingent upon admission to BSU and compliance with NCAA rules, including certification by the NCAA Eligibility Center.
Autumn Reid – Fr., 5-2 – Outfield – R/R – Forest Lake, Minn. (Forest Lake HS)
Forest Lake HS: A team captain, she was a four-year letterwinner for the Rangers’ softball program… Reid helped guide Forest Lake to the Minnesota State High School Tournament in 2018, where she was selected to the all-tournament team… As a Ranger, she has earned All-Suburban East Conference and all-section honors… Reid is also a member of the school’s honor roll.
Personal: Born on May 3, 2002, Autumn is the daughter of Aaron and Donnette Reid … She plans to major in psychology while attending Bemidji State.
Jennifer Smith – Jr., 5-6 – Infield – R/R – Winkler, Manitoba (Dawson CC/Garden Valley Collegiate)
Dawson CC: In one shortened season with Dawson CC, the transfer infielder made appearances in five games, recorded a batting average of 273, and totaled three hits, all doubles, to go with a pair of walks and three RBI… In addition, she posted 16 putouts and a .944 fielding percentage to rank third on the team… As a prep, Smith recorded the game-winning run to lead her team to gold at the provincials…. She was her high school Valedictorian, won the senor proficiency award and was a regular on the honor roll with distinction… At Dawson Community College she was named to the Dean’s High Honor List.
Personal: The daughter of Jim and Jane Smith, Jennifer was born April, 12, 2000… She plans to major in business management with an international studies minor at Bemidji State.
Kora Martin – Jr., 5-4 – Shortstop – R/R – Thorsby, Alberta (Rainy River CC/Delburne Centralized School)
Rainy River CC: A two-sport athlete at RRCC, Martin competed in volleyball and softball… On the diamond she earned All- Minnesota College Athletic Conference honors, academic all-conference laurels and was selected to the all-American academic team… She led her team and ranked third in the league with a .500 batting average in the COVID-19-shorted 2020 season… She was a part of three Canadian National Fastpitch Championships teams… In 2019, she completed nationals with a .450 batting average… Martin was a regular on the Dean’s List.
Personal: The daughter of Chance and Trina Martin, Kora was born November 9, 2000… She plans to major in communications at Bemidji State.
Stephanie Ferguson – 5-4 – Utility – R/R – Cloquet, Minn. (Duluth Denfeld HS)
Denfeld HS: A four-sport athlete for the Hunters, earning a total of 14 letters, Ferguson competed in cross country, basketball and figure skating in addition to softball… The junior transfer earned a spot on the All-Lake Superior Conference Honorable Mention squat at the conclusion of her junior season… On the ice, she placed second at the 2018 Midwest Regional Figure Skating Competition… Ran her first half marathon when she was in the eighth grade... Ferguson is an academic letter winner, earned an Honor “D” Pin, is a member of the school’s honor roll, the National Honor Society and the National Society of High School Scholars.
Personal: Born on May 23, 2002, Stephanie is the daughter of Daniel and Cecelia Ferguson … She plans to major in pre-pharmacy and chemistry at BSU and focus on coaching.
The Beavers finished the COVID-19-shortened 2020 season with an overall record of 10-12.
