MINOT, N.D. – The Bemidji State University softball team split the first day at the Air-Supported Dome Invitational Saturday afternoon after the Beavers defeated University of Mary, 10-4, but fell to University of Minnesota Crookston, 3-2 in non-conference action. The Beavers are now 2-2 to start the season.
In the first game of the day, Bemidji State scored a season-high 10 runs and was led by senior Sami Dullum who went 2-for-3 at the plate with a home run, double and four RBI to tie a career-best. Senior Lisa Kossan followed with a career-high three RBI and went 3-for-4 at the plate with a double. Bemidji State totaled 11 hits in the game including four who recorded multi-hit games.
Senior Stephi Dullum improved to 2-0 on the season after she pitched 4.0 innings and allowed just one run off of four hits and earned six strikeouts.
Bemidji State’s bats went quiet in game two of the afternoon and totaled just five hits in a 3-2 loss to Minnesota Crookston. Kossan paced the Beavers with her second multi-hit game after going 2-for-3 with a double and one RBI.
Redshirt freshman Kyla Damerow earned the loss in the circle after pitching 3.0 innings in relief and allowed the game-winning run in the sixth inning. Junior Kaidron McClafferty started the game and pitched 4.0 innings and allowed one run (unearned) off of three hits and had three strikeouts.
Bemidji State closes out play in the tournament tomorrow when it faces Northern State University and Minot State University at 10 a.m., and 1 p.m., respectively.
