WEST ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Bemidji State University softball team fell twice to No. 12 Winona State University Wednesday afternoon in non-conference plat at the WSP Dome in West St. Paul, Minn. The Beavers fell 10-0 in five innings in game one and then 7-5 in nine innings in game two.
Bemidji State is now 2-7 on the season and have lost seven consecutive games.
Winona State’s Jordyn Kleman threw a five-inning, no-hitter en route to a 10-0 win over the Beavers while senior Lisa Kossan was the lone Beaver reaching base during the game after being hit by a pitch in the first inning. Winona State totaled 10 hits in the game including a grand slam from Libby Neveau in the second inning.
Redshirt freshman Kyla Damerow earned the loss in the circle, her fourth of the season, after allowing eight runs (six earned) off of six hits in 1.1 innings of work. Freshman Stella Dolan came in to pitch 2.2 innings in relief and allowed two runs off of four hits and had four strikeouts.
Bemidji State forced extra innings in game two against the 12th-ranked Warriors after senior Lexi Derrick drove in the game-tying run in the bottom of the seventh inning. However, a three-run ninth inning by Winona State powered the Warriors to an eventual 7-5 victory.
The Beavers totaled six hits in the game including two from Derrick (2-for-3) and two from Kossan who went 2-for-3 and drove in two runs.
Dolan earned the loss in the circle, her first of the season, after coming in to pitch 3.2 innings in relief and allowed three runs (two earned) off of three hits and had two strikeouts. Senior Stephi Dullum started the game and pitched 5.1 innings and allowed four runs off of four hits and had five strikeouts.
Bemidji State will have the next 16 days off from competition and will return to play March 19-20 by traveling to St. Joseph, Mo., for the Hyvee Classic hosted by Missouri Western State University.
