BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University softball team begins the 2021 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference season Monday afternoon by hosting University of Minnesota, Crookston for a doubleheader slated to begin at 1 p.m. The Beavers (4-10) and Golden Eagles (4-10) have scheduled first pitch at the BSU Softball Field. 

Bemidji State and Minnesota Crookston have already met twice this season in non-conference action and split each game. 

Fans will be permitted to attend the games under current Minnesota Department of Health guidelines and will be required to wear masks and socially distance.

The Beavers are entering the conference season batting .242 as a team and rank 14th in the league with that average while the Golden Eagles are hitting .254 to rank 12th. Bemidji State’s pitching staff has a 4.86 team ERA to stand 13th in the conference while UMC ranks 10th in the NSIC with a 4.06 team ERA.

Bemidji State is led at the plate by senior Lisa Kossan who is batting .359 with 14 hits in 39 at bats and has totaled four doubles and seven RBI. Senior Samil Dullum paces the team with nine RBI and is batting .250 while sophomore Emmarie Yeager is batting .342 with six RBI, two home runs and leads the team with a .526 slugging percentage.

The Beavers’ pitching staff is led by senior Stephi Dullum who ranks ninth in the NSIC with a 1.82 ERA, ninth in strikeouts with 40 and eighth in opposing batting average at .215. Dullum was tabbed as the NSIC’s Pitcher of the Week this past week after earning two wins and allowed just one run, unearned, over 14 innings of work. 

Nestled in Northern Minnesota’s wooded region and located on the shore of Lake Bemidji, Bemidji State University sponsors 15 varsity athletic programs with NCAA Division I men’s and women’s hockey membership in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association, while its 13 NCAA Division II programs hold membership in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC).
