BSU Softball closes road trip at No. 21 Winona State and Upper Iowa

BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University softball team closes out its 10-game road trip this weekend by traveling to No. 21 Winona State University and Upper Iowa University for a pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference doubleheaders.

The Beavers (8-18, 4-8 NSIC) begin the weekend’s action Saturday, April 17 with a doubleheader against the Warriors (19-6, 8-4 NSIC) beginning at Noon. BSU will then travel to Fayette, Iowa to face the Peacocks (8-17, 4-8 NSIC) Sunday for their doubleheader at noon.

The Beavers enter the weekend’s action tied for 11th in the NSIC standings with a 4-8 conference record while the Warriors hold fifth in the standings and Upper Iowa is tied with the Beavers in 11th. Bemidji State is coming off a 1-3 weekend after being swept at Northern State University and split its doubleheader at Minnesota State University, Moorhead.

Bemidji State ranks last in the conference with a .220 batting average this season while its pitching staff ranks 13th in the league with a team ERA of 4.77.

The Beavers are led on offense by sophomore Emmarie Yeager who is batting .326 with 14 hits in 43 at bats but hasn’t played since March 29 due to injury. Senior Lisa Kossan trails Yeager and is the only other Beaver to hit above .300 this season with a batting average of .319 with 22 hits in 69 at bats. Kossan is tied for third on the team with 10 RBI this season and is tied for second with four doubles. Senior Lexi Derrick paces the team with 18 RBI this season and is batting .265 with five doubles and three home runs. Her eight extra base hits this season is most on the team.

Senior Stephi Dullum continues to lead the Beavers’ pitching staff this season and is 6-3 on the season with an ERA of 3.35 in 62.2 innings. She has pitched three complete games in 13 appearances and has earned 61 strikeouts. Freshman Stella Dolan follows with a 4.05 ERA and is 1-2 on the season in 15 appearances, mostly in relief. In 38 innings she has totaled 46 strikeouts and leads the team by holding opponents to a .270 batting average. 

Nestled in Northern Minnesota’s wooded region and located on the shore of Lake Bemidji, Bemidji State University sponsors 15 varsity athletic programs with NCAA Division I men’s and women’s hockey membership in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association, while its 13 NCAA Division II programs hold membership in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC).
