BSU Softball drops pair at No. 21 Winona State

WINONA, Minn. – The Bemidji State University softball team fell in both games of its doubleheader at No. 21 Winona State University Saturday afternoon in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play. The Beavers (8-20, 4-10 NSIC) fell to the Warriors (21-6, 10-4 NSIC) in game one 8-0 in five innings and then fell 3-0 in game two.

The Beavers were held hitless in game one versus the Warriors by pitcher Jordyn Kleman who pitched the complete game, no-hit shutout. Kleman dominated in the circle and totaled 13 strikeouts while the Beavers totaled just two baserunners.

Junior Kaidron McClafferty earned the loss in the circle after starting the game and pitching 2.2 innings with seven runs allowed (four earned) off of six hits. Freshman Stella Dolan came in to pitch 1.2 innings in relief and allowed just two hits and one run while striking out two.

Bemidji State senior Stephi Dullum was strong in the circle for the Beavers in game two and held the Warriors to 0 runs and one hit through five innings. However, a three-run home run by Warriors’ Sam Keller in the bottom of the sixth powered Winona State to a 3-0 victory and series sweep.

Dullum pitched all six innings in the game and allowed just four hits and three runs while also earning four strikeouts but the Beavers’ offense totaled just two hits in the game, a double by junior Elaina Christiansen and a single by senior Lexi Derrick.

Dullum falls to 6-4 on the season with the loss while Warriors’ Liz Pautz improves to 6-3 after pitching the complete game shutout and earned 13 strikeouts.

Bemidji State will look to rebound tomorrow when it travels to Upper Iowa University for a doubleheader with the Peacocks beginning at Noon and 2 p.m.
