Burns who surpassed her previous best kill total of 21 while hitting .262 (24k-7e-65at) was joined by newcomer Brie Groskruetz (Fr., OH, Reedsberg, Wis.) on the Beavers attack collecting 12 kills. She added a match best five services aces and 18 digs for the first double-double of her collegiate career. Five aces and 18 digs at each career-best totals for the freshman.
Alicia Beaman (Jr., S, St. Paul Park, Minn.) recorded a season-best 45 assists in the match.
Defensively, Bemidji State's Allison Hyatt (Jr., L, MineCentre, Ont.) led all players with a career-best 21.
The Beavers were out bit in the match posting a .222 (61-23-171) hitting percentage to the Cobbers .311 (69-17-167).
Becca Shane led a quartet of Concordia attackers with at least 10 kills as she collected a match-high 25. Michelle Honek and Angie Bonde each posted double-doubles for the Cobbers in the win.
The Beavers rebounded from the loss to the Cobbers to even their record at 4-4 on the season defeating the College of St. Scholastica, 3-0 (30-15, 30-22, 30-25) in the final match of the tournament.
BSU finished the event with a 3-1 record taking second place behind the host Concordia College who went a perfect 4-0 on the round-robin event.
Bemidji State juniors Burns and Beaman were each named to
the all-tournament team.
The Beavers will be back in action Sept. 8-9 when they participate in the first of two NSIC Classics. At the Marshall, Minn. event, BSU is slated to battle Concordia University-St. Paul and Winona State on Friday and league newcomer Upper Iowa Saturday.
