MARSHALL, Minn. - The Bemidji State University
volleyball team picked up its second Northern Sun Intercollegiate
Conference (NSIC) win of the season as the Beavers swept the
Peacocks from Upper Iowa (30-23, 30-26, 30-28) to improve
its record to 6-5 on the year and 2-1 in NSIC play. The Beavers
out played Upper Iowa in virtually every statistical category
using a .219 hitting percentage to push toward the win.
Three BSU players collected 12 kills in the match to lead BSU in the victory. The BSU attackers totaled 52 kills on 146 attempts while the Peacocks managed just 42 kills on 148 attempts.
Senior setter Alicia Beaman (St. Paul Park, Minn.) put up 56 assists for BSU and added seven defensive saves on the day.
Alaina Adams (Jr., OH, Halstad, Minn.) and Brie Groskreutz (Fr., OH, Reedsburg, Wis.) each recorded a double-double to lead the Beaver. Adams blasted 12 kills and recorded 22 digs for her third double-double of the season while Groskreutz totaled 12 kills and had 14 defensive saves for her second double-double of the season.
Shea Meyermann lead the way for the Peacocks as she recorded 12 kills and 22 digs in the match.
BSU has not won two consecutive matches in NSIC play since October of 2003 when the Beavers posted wins over Southwest Minnesota State and Northern State.
Bemidji State improves to 6-5 on the year and 2-1 in NSIC play. The Beavers will host St. Cloud State in its home opener on September 12 at 7:00 at the BSU Gymnasium.
