BSU falls 3-0 to Winona State
WINONA, Minn.-- The Bemidji State University volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-17, 26-24, 25-20) to Winona State University Friday at McCown Gymnasium. BSU’s record falls to 4-15 (1-10 NSIC). The Beavers have now lost eight-straight matches dating back to Sept. 17 when they picked up a 3-0 win over University of Minnesota, Crookston. Winona State improves to 13-7 (7-4 NSIC).

“We stepped up and played a decent match tonight,” said head coach Wayne Chadwick. “We had opportunities to take games two and three. We just need to continue to get better at understanding the moment and being able to take advantage of our opportunities.”

The Beavers had a balanced offensive attack Friday night versus the Warriors led by Kelsi Crawford (Fr., OH/DS, Wadena, Minn.) with nine kills and a .333 hitting percentage. The Beavers hit .165 overall as a team.  Bethany Thompson (Jr., OH, Owatonna, Minn.) also had nine kills for the match and hit .188. Kimberly Hacker (Sr., MB/RS, Hutchinson, Minn.) finished the night with five kills and hit .214. Jessi-Beth McCannell (Sr., S, Brandon, Manitoba) guided the BSU hitters with 27 assists. Bemidji State finished with 30 kills and 13 errors on 103 attempts.

Defensively, Thompson paced the Beavers with 11 digs. Elissa Christensen (Fr., DS, Montevideo, Minn.) added nine digs. BSU also had five blocks on the night paced by Hacker’s three block assists.

The Warriors offensive attack was guided by 12 kills apiece from Katie Froehle and Kathy Lohff. Lohff boasted a .370 hitting percentage on the night. Winona State hit .296 as a team with 52 kills and 18 errors on 115 attempts. Bekah Saugen and Kate Horihan each added nine kills for the Warriors. Setter Kayla Uhlenhake had 28 assists on the match.

Defensively, two-time All-NSIC selection Shannon McGown paced Winona State with 22 digs.

BSU falls to 45-43 all-time in matches against the Warriors. The Beavers will look to get back on the winning track Saturday at 5 p.m. against Upper Iowa University. Bemidji State and Upper Iowa met earlier this season with the Peacocks winning 3-0 at the University of Minnesota Duluth tournament in a nonconference match.
