BSU Volleyball falls 3-0 to Northern State
BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State volleyball team (6-18, 3-13 NSIC) played the Northern State Wolves (12-11, 7-9 NSIC) Saturday afternoon in the BSU Gymnasium, losing the match in straight sets, 25-17, 25-15, and 25-17. Northern State’s Carli Peterson led all Wolves in kills with 12 and Morgan Richardson led with 28 assists to finish the match.

“Northern State’s a solid team. They don’t do what I would call flashy things from an offensive or defensive standpoint, but they’re a solid team. They’re good at what they do and they were more consistent than how we were tonight,” said head coach Wayne Chadwick.

In the first set, Northern State took an early 8-4 advantage, forcing Chadwick to call a time-out. The Beavers found themselves down much of the time from then on and NSU went the rest of the way on a productive streak, winning the first set by score of 25-17.

BSU created the same problems on the hardwood much alike the first set, falling behind early 7-0. Despite the setback, the squad made a valiant comeback in the midst of the match by setting the score to 11-8 and forced Northern State to take an early time-out. The Wolves fought back from the tough BSU play brought before them and never looked back, taking control and winning the second set 25-15.

A different team came out of the Beavers’ locker room after intermission to start the third set, causing difficulty for Northern State’s offense to score, leading early in the match 8-4. The Wolves came back and caused tension for BSU, making the score 15-14 in their favor. The NSU volleyball team came together and never fell short the rest of the way, winning the set 25-17 and the match 3-0.

Bethany Thompson (Jr., OH/MB, Owatonna, Minn.) was the lone Beaver in double-digits with kills with 13 and had an attacking percentage of .136. Setting her and the rest of the Beavers in their scoring efforts was Jessi-Beth McCannell (Sr., S, Brandon, Manitoba) with 27 assists. McCannell also had 10 digs to go along with her performance, while Elissa Christensen (Fr., Lib., Montevideo, Minn.) led the teamwith 13 of her own.

The Beavers will be on the road Nov. 5-6, battling Minnesota State University Moorhead and University of Minnesota, Crookston.
