Volleyball program signs Courtney Fox during early signing period
BEMIDJI, Minn. - The Bemidji State Univeristy volleyball team announced the addition of Courtney Fox (DS, Hutchinson, Minn.) to a National Letter of Intent in the early signing period. Fox will begin play at Bemidji State in the fall of 2012. She is the first signee for this year’s recruiting class. Head coach Wayne Chadwick brought in five signees in his first full recruiting class last season.

All signees are contingent upon admission to BSU and compliance with NCAA rules, including certification by the NCAA Eligibility Center.

“Courtney is a solid defender and very good at ball control,” Chadwick said. “She is coming from a great program in Hutchinson and she knows what it takes to be successful. That kind of attitude is always a plus in any program. She is a very energetic kid. I think she is going to bring a lot of fire to the court in practice, as well as in matches.”

Fox joins a young program which loses only two seniors in setter Jessi-Beth McCannell (Brandon, Manitoba) and middle blocker Kimberly Hacker (Hutchinson, Minn.). The Beavers return senior-to-be Bethany Thompson (OH, Owatonna, Minn.) as well as several players who were new to the program last year and played vital roles.  Five freshmen started matches for BSU last season led by middle blocker Rachel Craig (Wadena, Minn.), who started every match for the Beavers. Junior college transfer Leigh Peterson (DS, Deer River, Minn.) also assumed a starting role late in the season.

Fox continues a tradition of Hutchinson players to come into the program joining Hacker and Laura Carlson, who was a member of the team from 2009-11.
