10in10: Freshman defensive specialist Courtney Fox

BEMIJDI, Minn. --The crisp wind of fall has begun to sneak into the forecast and the sound of Bemidji State University athletic teams preparing for the 2012 season have flooded the BSU campus.  In the final 10 days before the Beavers officially kick off the fall athletic season with their first home football game, BSUBeavers.com wants to get you geared up for 2012.

Now in day five of the 10-day series, BSUBeavers.com will give you inside access to fall training camp through the eyes of 10 Bemidji State student-athletes. Today we feature Courtney Fox (Hutchinson, Minn.) to get the freshman defensive specialist's perspective on the transition to the collegiate game, her goals for 2012 and what she did over the summer to prepare for BSU volleyball.

Fox is a newcomer to the Bemidji State volleyball team.  A freshman defensive specialist, Fox comes to BSU from Hutchinson, Minn., where she was a two-year member of the Hutchinson High School volleyball team and helped the Tigers to consecutive state tournament appearances. As one of four defensive specialist on the Beavers' 2012 roster, she is in the midst of a battle to find a regular spot in the line up.

Under the direction of head coach Wayne Chadwick, the BSU volleyball team finished the 2011 campaign 6-22 overall, while it was 3-17 to finish 12th in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC). In addition to Fox, Chadwick welcomes six newcomers for the 2012 season, while he returns eight veterans, including senior NSIC Player to Watch Bethany Thompson (OH, Owatonna, Minn.).

Bemidji State opens the 2012 season Aug. 31-Sept. 1 at the Pittsburg State Gorilla Classic.  The Beavers get their 20-match NSIC schedule underway Sept. 1 at Minot State.
