Bemidji State volleyball adds two for 2014

BEMIDJI, Minn.  – Bemidji State University head volleyball coach Wayne Chadwick announced two additions to the 2014 recruiting class Thursday. Angela Gareri (OH, Grand Rapids, Minn.) and Jordyn Koehn (S, Mukwonago, Wis.) each signed National Letters of Intent to play for the Beavers beginning with the 2014 season.

All signees are contingent upon admission to BSU and compliance with NCAA rules, including certification by the NCAA Eligibility Center.

“I think both players have the potential to be solid players for us,” Chadwick said. “Also I think both will push for playing time as true freshman.”

Gareri, a 6-2 outside hitter, comes to BSU from Grand Rapids High School where she was a starting right side hitter for the past three seasons. She posted 244 kills during her senior campaign, while leading the Thunderhawks to a 29-4 record and a birth into the state tournament. Gareri also played on the Bemidji Black Ice club team that was coached by Chadwick.

She is the daughter of Joe Gareri and Ann Killian and was born October 4, 1995 in Grand Rapids, Minn.

“Angela is a relatively local kid from Grand Rapids, which I feel is always a good thing,” Chadwick said. “She is 6-2 and left handed, so she will play right side hitter for us. Angela is a kid that instantly brings size to that side of the court we have not had the past few seasons.”

Koehn joins the Beavers after four years as Mukonago High School’s starting setter. She was named First Team All-Classic 8 Conference as a senior and received honorable mention honors as a junior in the Classic 8 conference. Koehn helped lead the Indians to the state finals as a senior. She also played on the very successful Milwaukee Sting club team.

She is the daughter of David and Nancy Koehn and was born July 13, 1996 in Waukesha, Wis.

“Jordyn is a setter out of one the best club teams in the region, the Milwaukee Sting,” Chadwick said. “She will definitely compete with our two incumbent setters, Courtney Volkmann (Sr., Wadena, Minn.) and Ashley Kiecker (Jr., Hector, Minn.) for playing time, which will make our team better in the long run.”
