ST. PAUL, Minn. (Ganglehoff Center) — The Bemidji State University volleyball team dropped a three-set, Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference match to No. 3 Concordia-St. Paul tonight in St. Paul, Minn. With the loss, the Beavers fall to 3-12 this season and 1-6 in conference play, while the Golden Bears improve to 13-2 overall and 6-1 in league play.

Chelsea Frison (MB, Jr., Whitewater, Wis.) led the Beavers with eight kills on 15 attack attempts, while Kayla DeJong (DS, Jr., Jefferson, Wis.) paced the defense with 16 digs.

Set 1: Bemidji State used stellar defense to stay close but a late run by the Golden Bears downed BSU, 25-16. The difference in the frame was CU freshman Mariya Sampson who hit .438 with seven kills. BSU’s defense contributed 20 digs and a pair of blocks in the first frame, but Sampson and the Golden Bears scored the final six points to take the frame.

Set 2: Concordia-St. Paul scored 11 of the first 13 points in the second to take a 2-0 lead in the match, 25-16. Bemidji State’s offense struggled for most of the set. The Beavers assembled a late rally to score five of seven points, the early deficit was too much to overcome. The Golden Bears outhit the Beavers .351 to .152 in the stanza.

Set 3: Bemidji State jumped on the Golden Bears early and got out to a 15-10 lead in the third before the Golden Bears answered with an 8-0 run to take a lead. BSU tied the score at 20-20 before CU scored five of the next six points to take the frame and the match, 25-21.
