Bemidji State snaps losing skid with sweep over MSU Moorhead

BEMIDJI, Minn. (BSU Gymnasium) — The Bemidji State University volleyball team snapped a seven-match losing skid with a 3-0 win over Minnesota State University Moorhead. The victory also snapped a 19-match winless streak against the Dragons dating back to 2003.

Sophomore Amanda Tronick led the Beavers with 10 kills and an attacking percentage of .471 on 17 attempts. Fellow sophomore Jessica Yost also posted 10 kills. Defensively, the Beavers were paced by Caitlin Volkmann and Kayla DeJong who had 13 and 12 digs, respectively.

Set 1: Bemidji State came out of the gates hitting .344 in the first frame compared to .088 put forth by the Dragons. Tronick and Yost had a combined nine kills to vault to the Beavers to a 25-14 set win.

Set 2: The second set was a back and forth affair with the score being tied nine different times and two lead changes. BSU, however, made the plays in the end to take the set 25-23. After the Dragons tied the score at 23 all, the Beavers took a timeout to regroup. The timeout worked as Tronick and Courtney Volkmann   notched kills to lift the Beavers to the set victory.

Set 3: In the third, there were nine tied scores and six lead changes in the frame. MSUM received a boost from the service line in the third with three service aces, but three service errors cost them the frame and match, 25-23 as all three serve miscues occurred when MSUM was within one point or ahead.

The Beavers returns home Saturday afternoon for another Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference battle against Northern State University. First serve is scheduled for 5 p.m.
