BSU's two-match win streak snapped at U-Mary

BISMARCK, N.D. - The University of Mary swept the Bemidji State University volleyball team 3-0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-17), Saturday in Bismarck, N.D., snapping the Beavers' winning streak at two matches.

Less than 24 hours after rallying for its second straight come-from-behind, five-set thriller, the Beavers ran into a Marauder attack that hit .369 in the match and recorded two sets with a hitting percentage over .400.

To start the match, BSU and U-Mary went toe-to-toe, and mid-way through the first set both teams were tied at 11. However, a seven point rally by the Marauders distanced U-Mary from BSU, and took the set 25-16.

The Beavers and Maruaders battled again in the second set, and with eight points remaining to find a victor, both teams were tied at 17. However, the Marauders would score eight of 11 points and took the set 25-20.

Down 0-2 for the third straight match, Bemidji State looked to mount another comeback against their opponent. Unlike previous matches, the Beavers couldn't match the offensive output of their opponent and fell in the third and final set 25-17.

Amanda Tronick led the Beavers with 10 kills on 29 swings (.172), while Jessica Yost added seven kills. Defensively, three BSU players recorded double digit dig totals led by Kayla DeJong, who posted 12.

The Beavers, winners of two of their last three Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference matches, return home to the BSU Gymnasium Oct. 2-3 for a pair of league contests. BSU will host Minnesota State University Moorhead at 7 p.m. Friday and Northern State University at 5 p.m. Saturday as a part of the school's annual Homecoming festivities.
