No. 9 Northern State defeats Bemidji State 3-0

BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University volleyball team dropped its third consecutive match after falling to No. 9 Northern State Saturday night. The Beavers (4-12, 2-5 NSIC) were defeated 3-0 to the Wolves (15-0, 7-0 NSIC) who remains undefeated.

The Beavers were led by Jessica Yost who totaled eight kills while Amanada Tronick added seven. Morgan Koshiol led the Beavers with five blocks and Bemidji State out blocked the Wolves 7-3.

Bemidji State and Northern State battled early in the first set and BSU was within one at 11-12. The Wolves responded by going on a three-point run to distance themselves from BSU. That four point lead was all NSU would need and they would eventually win the set 25-18.

The second set proved similar to first with both teams trading points early on, but with the set tied 5-5, Northern State score five out of the next six points to take the lead. BSU would eventually pull within two after blocks by Yost and Koshiol, but another late run by the Wolves sealed a 25-18 win in set two.

Set three was a different story than the previous two as NSU took a commanding 8-3 lead early on. Bemidji State struggled to pull close to the Wolves and Northern State never saw its lead than three. The Wolves would keep their perfect record in tack after defeating BSU 25-15 in the final set.

As a team, BSU had an attacking percentage of .071 while the Wolves attacked at a .237 clip. Ashley Kiecker led BSU with 24 assists while Kayla DeJong totaled 11 digs followed by Yost with eight.

The Beavers will continue NSIC play next weekend when they travel to Wayne State (Neb.) and Augustana College.
