Bemidji State closes out 2015 with 3-0 win against Minot State

BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University volleyball team ended its 2015 season on a high note after defeating Minot State University 3-0 (26-24, 25-21, 25-19), in the regular season finale, Saturday. The Beavers finish the season with a 7-22 (5-15 NSIC) record and the win snapped a three-match losing streak.

The Beavers were led by junior Jessica Yost who totaled 16 kills in the match and hit at a .263 clip. Junior Amanda Tronick followed with 12 kills and also had 10 digs for her sixth double-double of the season. Senior Ashley Kiecker led Bemidji State by tallying 34 of the teams 37 assists in the match.

Bemidji State and Minot State battled through the first set with each team trading points back and forth. Minot State held a 23-21 lead over BSU but three-straight points by Bemidji State gave BSU the lead at 24-23. Bemidji State clinched the first set at 26-24 after a block by Tronick.

BSU continued with their momentum into the second set and jumped to a six-point lead at 15-9. Minot State rallied back to make it 20-22, but Bemidji State scored three of the four remaining points to win the second set 25-21.

Minot State responded in the third set and jumped to a 6-2 lead over BSU. However, Bemidji State would rally back and made it 7-7 after three attacking errors by MSU. Bemidji State gained a 19-16 lead later on in the set after excellent team blocking and BSU went on to close out the final set 25-19.

Bemidji State totaled eight blocks as a team in the match and were led by freshman Kori Leist with four. With the win the Beavers earned the season sweep over Minot State.
