BEMIDJI, Minn. (Bemidji HS) – The Bemidji State University volleyball team snapped a nine-match losing streak Friday night by defeating Minot State University, 3-1, in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play. The Beavers 6-13 (2-8 NSIC) were led by senior Jessica Yost who tallied 19 kills while senior Amanda Tronick followed with 14.
Bemidji State hit .269 as a team in the match and added 57 kills. Sophomore Jessica Reega led the Beavers by hitting at a .562 percentage and totaled 11 kills. Freshman Julie Touchett added seven kills in 20 attacks and Freshman Shelby Haney coordinated BSU’s attack and had 50 assists, her second-highest tally this season while also leading the team with five service aces.
Sophomore Heather Fletcher led the Beavers’ defense with six blocks (3s-3a) while Touchett and Reega each added three. Emma Hallmann led the Beavers with 13 digs while Yost tallied her 10th double-double of the season with 10 digs.
Tronick inched closer to joining the 1,000 career kill club at Bemidji State and now sits at 989. The Hutchinson, Minn., native will look to eclipse the mark tomorrow when the Beavers host University of Mary in part of Homecoming weekend at Bemidji State. Game time is scheduled for 5 p.m.
