BEMIDJI, Minn. – In its final match of the 2018 season the Bemidji State University volleyball team honored its three seniors before hosting No. 5 Northern State University. Jessica Reega, Mikhaila Ness and Maddie Filipiak were each honored before Saturday’s match. The Beavers (6-22, 3-17 NSIC) fell to the fifth-ranked Wolves (25-3, 17-3 NSIC) 3-0 (13-25, 8-25, 17-25) and were led by one of its seniors in Filipiak who totaled seven kills and hit .267.
Bemidji State was no match for the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference’s most efficient attacking team and the Wolves continued that Saturday afternoon. The Wolves hit .485 as a team and totaled 55 kills with just five attacking errors on 103 attacks. The Beavers struggled early on and totaled just 23 kills with 11 errors on 86 attacks for a .140 clip.
The Wolves used a combination of Jenna Reiff, Hailey Busch, Laura Snyder and Sally Gaul to lead their attack with the four of them combining for 46 of the team’s 55 kills with Gaul and Reiff leading NSU with 12 kills each.
Following Filipiak, the Beavers were led by sophomore Anna Averkamp who totaled six kills and hit .200 while senior Jessica Reega and junior Julie Touchett followed with four kills each. Freshman Mary Campbell set the ball for the Beavers’ attack and totaled 22 assists.
Defensively, the Beavers were led by sophomore Becka Cronin who recorded eight digs while Becky Schroeder followed with six.
The Beavers officially end the 2018 season with a 6-22 record and 14th in the NSIC with a 3-17 league record.
