Beavers fall on the road at No. 23 Upper Iowa

FAYETTE, Iowa. – The Bemidji State University volleyball team fell to No. 23 Upper Iowa University in three sets Saturday afternoon in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference volleyball action. The Beavers (3-9, 0-4 NSIC) were led by senior Julie Touchett who totaled eight kills in the match.

Bemidji State started slow in the match after falling 12-25 in set one followed by an 18-25 loss in set two. Set three was much more competitive as the Beavers held a 21-15 point advantage late. However, the Peacocks responded with a 10-2 rally including eight consecutive points to take the final set 25-23.

The Beavers attacked at just a .070 hitting efficiency and totaled just 27 kills compared to 44 for the Peacocks.

Junior Becky Schroeder followed Touchett with six kills while Samiya Jami and Haley Stolt each contributed five kills. Redshirt freshman Maddie Mackinac led the attack and earned 23 assits.

On defense, Stolt led the team with 11 digs while senior Emma Hallmann added eight.

Bemidji State continues conference play on the road next weekend and will travel to Minnesota State University, Moorhead and Northern State University, Oct. 4-5.
