McKay and Ellisor garner Beaver Pride Athlete of the Week honors
BEMIDJI, Minn. -- Bemidji State University’s Colleen McKay (Sr., C, 6-0, Barnum, Minn.) and James Ellisor (Jr., F, 6-5, 195, Glendale, Ariz.) have been named Beaver Pride Athletes of the Week after recording outstanding athletic accomplishments during the week of Dec. 6-12.

McKay averaged 13.3 points and 6.3 rebounds in three games last week leading the BSU women’s basketball team to a 2-1 mark, which included its first NSIC victory of the season. The senior center averaged 16.0 points and 7.0 rebounds in NSIC games against Upper Iowa University and Winona State University, including a season-high of 18 points versus the Peacocks and a 2010-11-best seven rebounds in each Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference contests.

This week’s Beaver Pride Athlete of the Week award marks the first of McKay’s career, while it stands as the second time a member of the BSU women’s basketball has been selected for the award in 2010-11.

Ellisor, a native of Glendale, Ariz., averaged 21.5 points and 7.0 rebounds as the BSU men’s basketball team went 0-2 in NSIC play, falling to No. 3 Winona State (71-63) and Upper Iowa (83-80). He shot 64.3 percent from the field and went 7-of-8 (87.5%) from the free throw line. He also added three assists, two blocks and two steals in 34.0 minutes per game. In the loss to Upper Iowa, Ellisor recorded his second double-double of the season, scoring 21 points and adding a team-high 11 rebounds. In the game he went 7-for-10 (70%) from the field and 7-for-8 from the charity stripe (87.5%).  

This marks the second Beaver Pride Athlete of the Week award of the season for Ellisor, who also earned the award Nov. 24, while it stands as the third occasion a member of the BSU men’s basketball team has be picked for the honor.

The BSU men, 4-4 overall and 1-3 in league play, travels to Aberdeen, S.D. and Bismarck, N.D. this weekend to wrap up the 2010 calendar year.  The Beavers will face Northern State University Friday at 8 p.m. followed by a 8 p.m. affair with the University of Mary Saturday.

McKay and the BSU women’s basketball team, which owns 4-4 overall record and is 1-3 in NSIC play, is also on the road this weekend for games versus Northern State (6 p.m.) and U-Mary (6 p.m.).
