BSU turnovers send SCSU to win 70-51
ST. CLOUD, Minn. - The St. Cloud State University Huskies were able to force 29 turnovers as the Bemidji State University Beavers fell 70-51 on Friday night at Halenbeck Hall in St. Cloud, Minn. For the second consecutive game the Bemidji State Beavers struggled to maintain possession of the ball. BSU was forced into 25 turnovers on Sunday against No. 8 Wayne State College. The Beavers fall to 5-9 (2-8 NSIC). St. Cloud State improves to 8-6 (5-5 NSIC).

Freshman Sam Price ignited the Husky offense as she went off for 20 points on eight of 13 shooting from the field. Fellow guards Nicole Anderson (12) and Talisha Barlow (10) also tallied double-figure scoring. BSU outshot SCSU 37.7 percent to 36.8 percent on the night however points off turnovers and strong shooting from the charity stripe (17 of 18) helped the Huskies control the Beavers. St. Cloud State also won the rebound battle on the night

Ellie Wessling (Fr., G/F, Winsted, Minn.) led Bemidji State with 13 points and eight rebounds on six of nine shooting from the floor. Jessie Althoff (So., F/C, Becker, Minn) added 12 points. Colleen McKay (Sr., C, Barnum, Minn.) led the Beavers on the glass with 12 boards. BSU forced 20 SCSU turnovers on the night.

The Beavers committed 18 turnovers to eight for St. Cloud State in the opening period allowing the Huskies to a 40-24 lead going into the locker room. 21 of 40 Huskie points came off turnovers. St. Cloud State was paced by leading scorer Price, who tallied 14 in the first half. Anderson added eight for the Huskies. SCSU shot 45.2 percent to Bemidji State’s 39.1 percent. St. Cloud State was eight of nine from the charity stripe for 88.9 percent.

Bemidji State was led in the opening period by McKay’s six points. Wessling and Epema each added five points. The Beavers struggled from beyond the arc hitting only one of eight attempts.

BSU falls to 12-29 all-time against St. Cloud State. The Beavers will continue play on Saturday with a 4 p.m. start against Concordia University, St. Paul and the Gangelhoff Center in St. Paul, Minn.
