GRAND FORKS, N.D. - The Bemidji State University women’s basketball team closed its nonconference schedule and the 2011 calendar year with an 86-50 loss to Division I University of North Dakota Monday in Grand Forks, N.D.

The Beavers shot just 29.1 percent in the game, while the Fighting Sioux shot 46.0 percent from the field. BSU had 21 turnovers in the game, which led to a 20 points off turnovers by UND. The Beavers pulled down 15 offensive rebounds, which guided the Fighting Sioux to a 21-8 advantage on second chance of points.

The Fighting Sioux opened an 8-0 lead and never allowed the Beavers back into the game as it rolled to a 31-12 lead with 8:19 left in the half. UND held a lead as large as 19 in the frame until owning a 13 point advantage at 40-27 heading into the locker room. The Fighting Sioux had their first 20 point lead with 15:56 remaining in regulation. BSU was able to cut the deficit to 15 with 14:22 remaining behind a freshman Paige Tompkins (F/C, Milnor, N.D.) jumper and a sophomore guard Morgan Lee (Hayward, Wis.) 3-pointer. Unfortunately for the Beavers it would be as close as they would get as UND opened a 30 point lead, en route to the 36 point victory.

Sophomore Kate Warmack (C, East Grand Forks, Minn.) led BSU with 11 points, four rebounds and two blocks. Lee had 10 points for BSU. The Beavers are 5-6 overall this season and have a 3-3 record in NSIC play.

The Beavers have a holiday break before returning to action Jan. 3 at home against University of Minnesota Duluth at 6 p.m.
