The Game
The Bemidji State University women’s basketball team (5-9; 3-6 NSIC) begins a four-game Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference homestand Jan. 13-14 when St. Cloud State University and Concordia University, St. Paul visit BSU Gymnasium. The contest with the Huskies will begin at 6 p.m. Friday and the tip with the Golden Bears is scheduled for 4 p.m. Saturday.     

The Beavers
The Beavers’ 3-6 NSIC record stands in a three-way tie for 10th with this weekend’s opponents. The Beavers have struggled since opening the NSIC season on the road with a 3-1 record, falling in six straight games (five straight NSIC games), most recently at Augustana College (91-69) and No. 8 Wayne State College (74-49). BSU is 2-3 at home this season (0-3 in NSIC games). The Beavers have a 78.3 percentage from the charity stripe, which ranks second in the conference and seventh in the nation. BSU has the third best 3-point percentage in the NSIC this season, shooting at a 34.2 clip. The Beavers have three players scoring in double-figures, led by sophomore Morgan Lee’s 12.4 points per contest.

• The Beavers are stuck on 499 program wins, looking for 500 this weekend.
• Sophomore Kate Warmack’s 50.4 percent from the field ranks fifth in the NSIC.
• BSU is second in the league in NSIC games only with a 78.9 percentage from the charity stripe. Its 78.3 percentage overall ranks second in the league and seventh in the nation. The Beavers have four players in the top 15 in the league in free throw percentage, led by sophomore Ellie Wessling’s 87.5 percent from the line which ranks third in the league.
• In league games only, the Beavers are touting three players in the top 20 for scoring. Sophomore Morgan Lee (12.8 ppg - 13th), junior Shannon Thompson (11.8 ppg - 16th) and Warmack (11.4 ppg - 20th).
• Lee has made 19 3-pointers in league games this season to rank second in the category and average 2.11 3-pointers made per game.
• The Beavers are averaging 65.7 points per NSIC game this season to rank sixth, but are allowing 72.8 points per contest to rank tied for last.
• BSU is 4-1 when it has a lead or is tied at halftime.

Last Time Out
The Beavers lost both games in the first half last weekend trailing by 22 against Augustana and 15 against Wayne State at the break. BSU was unable to recover in the second, but tied the second frame with the Vikings and falling by 10 to the Wildcats. Junior Shannon Thompson averaged 13.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game on the NSIC road weekend. In the two games she shot 9-for-16 (56.3%) from the field, 6-for-10 (60%) from beyond the arc, added five assists and five steals in 31.5 minutes per game.    

The Huskies
The Huskies hold a 6-7 overall and 3-6 NSIC record. SCSU is 1-3 in its last four games after splitting a conference road weekend Jan. 7-8, downing Upper Iowa 73-70 before falling at Winona State 58-40. The Huskies are tied for 13th in scoring offense in league games this season with 59.1 points per game. On the defensive end, SCSU has a NSIC-best 12.7 steals per game. Sophomore Sam Price has 8.9 points per game to lead the Huskies. Lori Fish, head coach for SCSU, is in her fourth season with the Huskies.
All-time Series vs the Huskies
The Beavers and Huskies have been doing battle since 1969 with SCSU holding the all-time advantage 30-14. BSU is 1-4 in the last five games and 2-16 in the last 18 meetings, dating back to 1997. The Beavers last defeated the Huskies Feb. 6, 2010, 70-63 at BSU Gymnasium. Last season BSU fell in the only contest between the teams 70-51 in St. Cloud.

The Golden Bears
The Golden Bears are 6-9 overall and 3-6 in conference play. CU is on a six-game losing streak, most recently falling at Winona State 64-51 and at Upper Iowa 62-44. The Golden Bears are scoring 64.3 points and allowing 64.5 points per game this season. Concordia-St. Paul is 1-5 on the road this season and 1-3 in NSIC road contests. Freshman Anika Whiting is leading CU with 10.7 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. Paul Fessler is in his 12th season as head coach at Concordia-St. Paul.
All-time Series vs the Golden Bears
The Beavers are 11-24 all-time against the Golden Bears and are 0-5 in the last five and 1-9 in the last 10. The Beavers last downed CU 82-74 Dec. 8, 2006 in Bemidji. In the only meeting last season BSU lost 85-70 in St. Paul.
