The Game
With an eight-game losing streak behind it after a 2-0 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference home weekend the Bemidji State University women’s basketball team (7-11; 5-8 NSIC) now heads on the road to battle University of Mary and Northern State University Jan. 27-28. Both games are slated to start at 6 p.m.     

The Beavers

The Beavers are 7-11 overall and 5-8 in the NSIC to sit in a four-way tie for ninth in the league standings with Minnesota State University Moorhead, University of Minnesota, Crookston and Concordia University, St. Paul. BSU snapped an eight-game losing streak Jan. 20 with a 72-71 win versus a Minnesota State University, Mankato team that was riding an eight-game win streak. The Beavers followed up with a dominate performance against Southwest Minnesota State University Jan. 21, winning 77-54. Sophomore Morgan Lee scored 21 and 20 for the Beavers - her first back-to-back 20 point games in her career - and shot 51.9 percent from the field. She leads the team in scoring with 13.1 points per game. Sophomore Kate Warmack is averaging 12.8 points and a team-best 6.9 rebounds per game.

• The Beavers recorded their 500th program win Jan. 20 with a 72-71 victory against Minnesota State.
• BSU has the second best scoring offense in NSIC games this season with 67.3 points per game, but have allowed 72.8 points per game to rank 13th in the league.
• Sophomore Kate Warmack’s 50.0 percent from the field ranks fourth in the NSIC.
• BSU leads the league in NSIC games only with a 79.4 percentage from the charity stripe. Its 78.8 percentage overall mark leads the league and ranks 5th in the nation. The Beavers have three players in the top 15 in the league in free throw percentage, led by junior Shannon Thompson’s 85.5 percent from the line which ranks fourth in the league.
• The Beavers are touting four players in the NSIC’s top 30 for scoring - sophomore Morgan Lee (13.1 ppg - 11th), Warmack (12.8 ppg - 13th), Thompson (11.3 ppg - 17th) and senior Samantha Baldwin (9.8 ppg - 28th).
• Lee has made 33 3-pointers in league games this season to rank first in the category and average 2.54 3-pointers made per game. Her 42.9 percentage from beyond the arc ranks 10th in the league games this season.
• BSU is 6-1 when it has a lead or is tied at halftime.

Last Time Out
The Beavers snapped an eight-game losing streak with a 72-71 home victory against Minnesota State Jan. 20, before owning a 77-54 win against Southwest Minnesota State Jan. 21. Two free throws from junior Shannon Thompson with two seconds remaining won the game for the Beavers against MSU. Sophomore Morgan Lee scored a game-high 21 points and sophomore Kate Warmack added 18 points and nine rebounds in the win against the Mavericks. The Beavers shot 51.1 percent from the field and held the Mustangs to 34 percent shooting in the 23-point victory Saturday. Thompson tallied a career-high 25 points in the win, while Lee had her first back-to-back 20 point performances as she added 20. Warmack posted her fourth double-double of the season with 13 points and 11 rebounds.    

The Marauders
The Marauders are 13-4 overall and 10-3 in conference play to sit third in the league standings. U-Mary is winners in nine of its last 10 contests, most recently downing Northern State 73-71 in Aberdeen. The Marauders boast an 8-2 home record and have won their last five at the Activity Center. Ali Collins guides the team in scoring with 11.2 points per game. Fred Fridley is in his ninth season at U-Mary.

The Beavers are 2-9 all-time against the Marauders, winning the first contest between the teams in 1984 and getting the other win Jan. 16, 2010 by the score of 71-61. BSU hosted U-Mary Dec. 17, falling 81-77.

The Wolves
The Wolves are 11-8 overall and 6-7 in conference play to sit in a three-way tie for sixth in the NSIC standings. NSU is 2-4 in its last six games, falling to U-Mary at home Jan. 21 by the score of 73-71. The Wolves are 5-4 at home this season (3-4 in NSIC games). In conference games the Wolves lead the NSIC in rebounding margin with a +6.7 mark. NSU is guided by Emily Becken’s 12.5 points and 3.8 assists per game. Curt Fredrickson is the head coach for the Wolves. He is in his 33rd season and surpassed 700 career wins earlier this season.

The Beavers 8-46 against the Wolves all-time, dating back to the first meeting in 1986. BSU has lost the last seven to NSU, with the last victory coming at home Jan. 11, 2008 by the score of 77-65. Earlier this season the Wolves downed the Beavers 73-60 at the BSU Gymnasium.
