BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University women’s basketball team opens the 2013-14 season Oct. 27 with an exhibition contest at NCAA Division I South Dakota State University beginning at 2 p.m.

• The Jackrabbits - the reining regular season (28-5 overall, 14-2 Summit) and conference tournament champions - were pegged to finish first in the Summit League this season.
• Coming off an 11-16 overall and 7-15 mark in league play a season ago, the Beavers were picked to finish 14th in the 2013-14 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Women’s Basketball Preseason Coaches’ Poll.
• BSU welcomed seven newcomers to the program this fall and returned players from the 2012-13 squad.
• Senior Morgan Lee led the team and finished 12th in the NSIC last season with 13.8 points per game. Her 64 3-pointers made ranked fourth in the NSIC and 56th nationally.
• The Beavers ranked sixth in the NSIC in steals with 8.4 per game last season.
• The Beavers have two players on the current roster that had mothers that played basketball at BSU and were teammates. Hanna Zerr’s mother, Kim (Babula), and Cassie Baalke’s mother, Beth (Buckingham), played together in the mid-80’s and were both enshrined into the BSU Athletic Hall of Fame as members of the 1986-87 women’s basketball team.
