No. 11 Wayne State too much for Beavers in 87-41 loss

WAYNE, Neb. (Rice Auditorium) – The No. 11 Wayne State College Wildcats proved to be too much for the visiting Bemidji State University women's basketball team Saturday, as the Beavers lost 87-41 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action. The Beavers dropped to 7-7 overall and 3-7 in NSIC play.

Senior Kate Warmack (C, East Grand Forks, Minn.) recorded 18 points and eight rebounds to post the only double-digit scoring effort for the Beavers. She was 8-for-14 (57.1%) from the field and 2-for-2 from the charity stripe.

BSU shot 28.6 percent from the field, while allowing WSC to shoot 52.6 percent. Bemidji State was only able to knock down one 3-pointer and that came with under two minutes left in the contest. BSU went 1-for-8 (12.5%), while WSC was 9-for-20 (45%). The Beavers committed 25 turnovers and the Wildcats took advantage with 27 points off those miscues.

The first Beaver bucket came off the hands of Warmack 2:20 into the contest, but BSU only trailed 3-2. WSC then posted a 14-2 run to open a 17-4 lead with 13:13 left in the opening frame. A Warmack layup moved the score to 17-6, but the Beavers would go on to fail to score for the next five minutes of game clock and with 5:48 to go, BSU trailed by 25, 31-6.

The draught put the Beavers in a hole they couldn’t climb out of and trailed 40-13 at the half. BSU shot just 17.2 percent from the field, while Wayne State shot 51.6 percent in the opening 20 minutes.

The closest BSU would get in the second half was down 27 at 54-27 with 11:26 remaining, before falling by 46
