BSU winning streak snapped in double overtime loss to Minot State, 86-74

MINOT, N.D. (MSU Dome) -- The first Beaver Bash of the season took 50 minutes to decide as the Bemidji State University women’s basketball ultimately fell to Minot State University Friday night, 86-74, at MSU Dome in Minot, N.D. The Beavers battled back from a five-point deficit after the first quarter to force two overtimes while the team falls to 4-13 overall and 2-11 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.

The matchup was a one-possession game for the majority of the second half after Bemidji State held a 33-29 lead four minutes into the third quarter. From that point, the game featured 13 lead changes between the Beaver squads until a 60-60 stalemate forced the first overtime.

The one-possession score remained until Minot State pulled ahead by four, 69-65, with under one minute in the first period of extra time. Freshman guard Trinity Myer scored back-to-back baskets driving into the paint to tie the game and force the second overtime. MiSU opened the final overtime on a 7-0 run, as BSU went 0-for-2 shooting with two turnovers gave away during the stretch. Minot State answered every Bemidji State score and finished the game shooting 6-for-6 from the free throw line.

Myer and sophomore guard Brooklyn Bachmann paced BSU with 13 points each, as Myer went 5-for-7 from the floor and Bachmann went 4-for-11. Minot State won the battle on the boards, 50-32, and outscored Bemidji State in the paint, 36-28, but BSU knocked down 12-of-32 shots from 3-point range.

Bemidji State concludes the road trip to North Dakota Saturday at 3:30 p.m. against University of Mary.
