ST. CLOUD, Minn. (Halenbeck Hall) -- After leading for the majority of the first three quarters, Bemidji State University women’s basketball was overtaken in the final period of a 65-53 loss at St. Cloud State University on Saturday afternoon.

The Beavers held a lead for 20 of the first 30 minutes of action before the Huskies went on a 12-4 run heading into the fourth quarter to take control of the game. BSU was outscored 22-9 in the fourth quarter as the Beavers fall to 6-6 overall and 3-5 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.

Five different players opened scoring for the Beavers to help take an 11-6 lead. BSU continued to limit SCSU in scoring while taking a game-high eight-point, 16-8 lead with one minute to play in the first quarter. The Huskies battled back to regain the lead with eight straight points to open the second quarter before back-to-back 3-pointers from junior guard Sydney Zerr and sophomore forward Claire Wolhowe sparked an 11-2 run for the Beavers.

Wolhowe hit her second and final 3-pointer of the game to put BSU ahead by five points, 37-32, before SCSU went hot from the field. St. Cloud State converted its next five field goal attempts to take the lead back, although the Beavers forced misses on the Huskies’ final four field goals of the third quarter for a 44-43 lead heading into the final 10 minutes.

SCSU opened the fourth quarter on a 10-3 run as BSU went 1-of-6 from the field and gave away six turnovers to face a 53-47 deficit with 2:50 to play. The Huskies closed out the final 1:37 of the game going 12-of-12 from the free throw line to seal the comeback.
