Bachmann’s double-double lifts Beavers to 74-72 overtime win over Peacocks

FAYETTE, Iowa (Dorman Gymnasium) -- Junior guard Brooklyn Bachmann’s first career double-double helped push the Bemidji State University women’s basketball team to a 74-72 overtime win over Upper Iowa University on Friday in Fayette, Iowa.

Bachmann set a career-high with 13 rebounds while sophomore guard Trinity Myer recorded her fifth career 20-point game as the Beavers move to 7-8 overall and 4-7 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.

Bemidji State went into halftime with a 33-31 advantage and extended it to its first double-digit lead early in the fourth quarter. Myer scored 12 of her 20 points in the third period while freshman center Rachael Heittola converted an and-one less than three minutes into the fourth quarter to push BSU’s lead to 60-49.

The Peacocks followed Heittola’s score with a 17-5 run to end regulation. Myer attempted a game-winning drive to the basket with five seconds remaining that missed and was recovered by Upper Iowa to force overtime. BSU began the extra time with the first four points, made on a free throw by junior center Taylor Bray and a 3-pointer by sophomore forward Claire Wolhowe. UIU scored the following five points to take its first lead since late in the first quarter, 71-70. Bachmann scored her 10th point of the night following the Peacocks’ go-ahead score before sinking the game-winner with less than one second to play.

BSU outshot UIU from the field, 44.4 percent (28-63) to 38.5 percent (25-65), and dominated in the paint, 44-22. The Beavers finished 13-of-20 from the free throw line and scored 11 points off 10 Peacocks turnovers.

Bemidji State closes out the weekend with a 3:30 p.m. tip-off on Saturday at Winona State University in Winona, Minn.
