BURNSVILLE, Minn. – The 2020-21 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference post-season tournament bracket has been released, which includes a Bemidji State University women’s basketball matchup against Concordia University-St. Paul Friday, Feb. 26 at 10 a.m. The Beavers enter the tournament as the No. 3 seed in the NSIC North Division going against the No. 2 seed of the NSIC South Division Golden Bears.
BSU finished the 2020-21 regular season with a 9-5 record overall and 8-4 mark in conference play, guaranteeing its first overall winning season since 2006-07 and its first conference winning season since 1995-96. During the regular season, Bemidji State won seven straight games from Jan. 3-30, the team’s longest winning streak since the 1987-88 season. Senior guard Brooklyn Bachmann and sophomore center Rachael Heittola each earned an NSIC North Division Player of the Week honor during the season, marking the first time BSU has earned two such awards in the same season since 2007-08.
Bemidji State and Concordia-St. Paul have met twice in the NSIC Tournament all-time, while both teams have won one of those two games. BSU and CSP last met in the post-season during the 2018-19 season when No. 8 seeded Bemidji State took down No. 1 seeded Concordia-St. Paul on the road, 73-70, for its first NSIC Tournament win since 2003-04. The Golden Bears won the only other post-season matchup between the two teams, 102-80, on March 2, 2005.
The Beavers and Golden Bears will face-off at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, S.D. The winner between BSU and CSP will advance to play in the semifinals Saturday, Feb. 27 at 10 a.m., while the championship game will be played Sunday, Feb. 28 at 1 p.m. No spectators will be allowed at the 2021 NSIC/Sanford Health Basketball Tournament.
