BEMIDJI, Minn. -- The weekly radio show, “Sports in the Round”, which is held on Wednesday evenings from 6-8 p.m. at The Ground Round, will feature the Bemidji State Universty women’s cross country team. BSU women’s cross country/men’s and women’s track coach Craig Hougen will be on the program to discuss the upcoming Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference men’s and women’s cross country championships hosted by BSU.
The event is slated for Saturday, Oct. 24 at the Greenwood Golf Course in Bemidji. The women’s 6K will begin at 11 a.m., followed by the men’s 8K at 12 p.m. The men’s championships will feature four programs ranked in the top 10 in the central region, which includes Minnesota State University, Makato (No. 5), Minnesota State University Moorhead (No. 6), Augustana College (No. 7) and the University of Minnesota Duluth (No. 10). The women’s championship also has four programs ranked in the top 10 in the central region, in Augustana (No. 2), Minnesota Duluth (No. 4), Winona State University (No. 9) and Minnesota State (No. 10). The Bemidji State women’s cross country squad was picked 11th in the NSIC Coaches’ Preseason Poll. Hougen has been coaching men’s and women’s cross country and track for 20 years at BSU.
Also appearing on the show are Bemidji State’s Beaver Pride Athletes of the Week. This week, the male athlete of the week is junior Matt Read (F, Ilderton, Ontario) from the men’s hockey team. The female athlete is women’s hockey sophomore goaltender Zuzana Tomcikova (Bratislava, Slovakia).
