Buerkle leads sixth-place Bemidji State at Jimmie Invitational
Jamestown, N.D. --  Senior Kristi Buerkle (Stacy, Minn.) finished the Jimmie Invitational 5,000-meter course in 20:49.00 to place 23rd individually and pace the sixth-place Bemidji State University women’s cross country team in their first collegiate competition since Sept. 3, Friday afternoon in Jamestown, N.D.

In addition to Buerkle, Bemidji State had seven other runners finish the race.  Junior, Bemidji, Minn. native Ali Hougan recorded a 21:19.00 to finish 32nd, while Kirsten Maras (Jr., Anoka, Minn.) sat 33rd just three seconds back (21:22.00).  Newcomer Mackenzie Haupert (Fr., Andover, Minn.) turned in a time of 21:53.00 to finish 44th in her first collegiate meet.  Ciara Robinson (So., Forest Lake, Minn.) took 55th with a time of 22:14.00, Michelle Ohman (So., Prior Lake, Minn.) was 55th (22:36.00) and Tina Larson (So., Morris, Minn.) finished in of 22:36.00, a time good for 68th individually. Pearl Walker (Jr., Bemidji, Minn.) rounded out BSU’s participants crossing the finish line in 23:30.00 to finish 69th.

The Beavers completed the race with 127 team points, seven points behind University of Minnesota-Morris for fifth and sat 72 points off the pace set by first-place Jamestown College (55).

The hosting Jimmies posted two of the top five finishers, which included Katie Calon, who was first to cross the finish line, clocking a time of 18:10.00.

Bemidji State will participate in the 2010 Homecoming run tomorrow in Bemidji, Minn. and will travel to Carlton, Minn. to participate in the University of Minnesota Duluth’s Pine Hill Invitational Oct. 9.
