Maras takes 15th to lead Bemidji State at Valley City State Invitational

VALLEY CITY, N.D. --  Kirsten Maras (Anoka, Minn.) opened her senior season placing 15th, while leading the Bemidji State University women’s cross country team to a third place finish at the Valley City State Invitational in Valley City, N.D. Friday.

Maras completed the 4,000-meter course in 17:02.00 to edge teammate Tina Larson (Jr., Morris, Minn.), who took 18th overall, by just 14 seconds (17:16.50). In addition, Alison Hougen (Sr., Bemidji, Minn.) posted a 17:33.20 to finish 22nd, Michelle Ohman (Jr., Prior Lake, Minn.) took 24th with a time of 17:38.70 and Emily Paquin (Fr., Coon Rapids, Minn.) rounded out BSU’s team score in 33rd place, crossing the finish line in 18:28.70 in her first collegiate race.

Concordia College (Minn.) took the overall team title, while individual honors went to Jamestown College’s Aleona Reyes, turned in a time of 15:49.70.

Bemidji State returns to action Sept. 9, when it travels to Glyndon, Minn. to participate in Minnesota State University Moorhead’s Randy Smith Invitational.
