Bemidji State takes seventh at Randy Smith Invitational

GLYNDON, Minn. (Ponderosa GC) --  The Bemidji State University cross country team placed seventh at the Randy Smith Invitational Friday. Kirsten Maras (Sr., Anoka, Minn.) led the way for the Beavers placing 26th individually.

Maras completed the team’s first 6,000-meter course of the 2011 season in a time of 24 minutes, 17.1 seconds to cross the line 3:25.0 off the pace set by University of Mary competitor Dakota Wolf (20:52.1), the event’s top finisher.

Wolf’s individual victory also sparked the Marauders (17) to the team title over Northern State University (66) and Concordia College (Minn.) (95).

BSU was 165 points back in seventh place (182).

In addition to Maras, BSU had six other runners compete in the race with four posting times that contributed to the Beavers’ team score.  Junior Tina Larson (Morris, Minn.) clocked a time of 24:44.9 to finish 33rd, Tess Boucher (Fr., Alexandria, Minn.) crossed the finish line in 40th place with a time of 25:34.2, Michelle Ohman (Jr., Prior Lake, Minn.) finished just two seconds later (25:36.2) in 41st and sophomore Taylor Sautbine (Tamarack, Minn.) posted a 25:41.4 to round out the Beavers’ team score in 42nd.

Bemidji State returns to action Sept. 24 when it travels to Falcon Heights, Minn. to participate in the University of Minnesota’s Roy Griak Invitational.
