Maras leads Bemidji State to fourth-place finish at Jamestown
JAMESTOWN, N.D. (Hillcrest Golf Course) -- Led by senior Kirsten Maras (Anoka, Minn.), the Bemidji State University cross country team battled windy conditions Friday in Jamestown, N.D. to place fourth in at the Jamestown Jimmie Invitational.

Maras completed the 5,000-meter course in a time of 20 minutes, 10 seconds to cross the line 1:18 off the pace set by Jamestown College competitor Aleona Reyes (18:52), who finished the race with 34-second cushion over the rest of the field.

The Beavers had three runners finish among the top 20 and posted a team total of 90.  Despite clocking the two best times of the day, Jamestown (51) finished third behind Concordia College (36) and Minot State University (48).  Presentation College rounded out the team scoring in fifth with 155 points.

In addition to Maras, BSU had six other runners compete in the race with four posting times that contributed to the Beavers’ team score.  Junior Tina Larson (Morris, Minn.) clocked a 20:43 to finish 14th, Taylor Sautbine (So., Tamarack, Minn.) finished 19th with a time of 21:09, Alison Hougen (Sr., Bemidji, Minn.) crossed the finish line in 26th place logging a time of 21:31 and Kasey Lasch (Fr., Wahpeton, N.D.) turned in a time of 21:50 to grab 31st.

The Jamestown Jimmie Invitational served as the Beavers’ final tune up for the 2011 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Championship held in Moorhead, Minn. Oct. 22.  The 6,000-meter footrace is set to begin at 11 a.m.
