Beavers prepare to run in NCAA Central Regional
BEMIDJI, Minn. -- The Bemidji State University cross country team will compete in the 2011 NCAA Division II Central Region Cross Country Championship on Saturday, Nov. 5 in Denver, Colo. The 6K run will begin at 11 a.m. at Washington Park, with the regional hosted by Metropolitan State College of Denver.

Last time out the Beavers competed in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Championship, finishing ninth as a team with 254 points. Senior Kirsten Maras (Anoka, Minn.) paced BSU with a 52nd-place finish, completing the 6,000-meter course in a time of 23 minutes, 27.17 seconds. Fellow senior Brittney Becker (Grand Rapids, Minn.) crossed the finish line in 62nd, clocking in with a time of 24:12.1.

Last year, BSU finished with 570 points to placed 20th at the central regional hosted by Wayne State College in Wayne, Neb. Individually, Maras turned in a time of 25:29.00 to place 108th with teammate Alison Hougen (Sr., Bemidji, Minn.) 23 seconds behind (25:52.05) in 117th.

The Central Regional is composed of 24 schools from the NSIC and the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC). The two conferences total schools from seven states (Colorado, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, South Dakota).
