BURNSVILLE, Minn. – Bemidji State University senior Nicole Crummy was selected as a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Cross Country Athlete to Watch as a part of the league’s 2015 preseason coaches’ poll. The Beavers were picked to finish 12th.
Turner returns for her senior season after finishing second among her teammates in all six of the Beavers’ 2014 events. Highlighted by taking 18th individually, clocking a time of 24:22.59 at the 5,000-meter Mike Thorston Invitational, Crummy’s season also included 29th place at the Randy Smith Invitational, where she posted a season-best 4,000-meter time of 20:09.2. In addition, she finished 61st at the NSIC Championship, turning in a time of 24:16.52 and was a member of a BSU squad that competed in the NCAA Division II Central Regional in Wayne, Neb.
Sasha Hovind, a 2014 NCAA Division II All-American from the Northern State University, was selected as the NSIC Preseason Athlete of the Year following a sophomore campaign during which she earned the NSIC title, placed third in the Central Region and 15th at the NCAA Division II Championship.
The Beavers received 42 points to hold down the 12th spot in the poll, led by defending NSIC champion Augustana College, which garnered 195 points and 13 of 15 first place votes. University of Minnesota Duluth picked up the two remaining first place votes to finish second in the poll with 183 points. University of Mary settled into the third spot with 161 points.
Under the direction of new head coach Kevin Kean, the Bemidji State cross country team lifts the lid on its 2015 campaign Sept. 11 when it travels to Moorhead, Minn. to compete in the Randy Smith Invitational. The race is slated to begin at 8:15 p.m.
